Putting Together a Basic Supplies Kit

Whether you are attending classes, going to a crafty getaway or just crafting on the go, chances are at some point you will need to pack up a basic supplies kit. I like to have a checklist to make sure I don’t forget any of the essential items, but where do you start?

Here is the list of supplies that I pack, and that you might find useful when putting together your own kit. Keep in mind, that these products will vary depending on which craft you do, and this list is more specific to card making. However I have added some additional items at the bottom that apply to art journal/mixed media type classes.

  • Paper trimmer – I find a smaller trimmer is usually enough when attending classes.
  • Scoring tool/bone folder or score board – again, if choosing to take a score board, then a mini version is very handy.
  • Anti-static pouch/powder tool – not only is this handy for heat embossing, but it’s also great for ‘priming’ new stamps to remove the sticky residue before using them for the first time.
  • Stamp positioning tool/Misti – I use this handy tool every time I stamp.
  • Tweezers and/or piercing tool – great for placing small embellishments, and removing pieces from die cuts.
  • Scissors/Craft knife.
  • Heat tool – for heat embossing or drying projects.
  • Tape, tape runner and/or double sided foam tape.
  • Liquid glue.
  • Ruler
  • Pencil and eraser.
  • Small notepad – great for taking class notes or sketching out ideas.
  • Removable tape – for example purple tape or washi tape. Useful for holding dies in place, as well as stencils and cardstock to work surfaces.
  • Stamp shammy/baby wipes – for cleaning down stamps and also wiping up ink from your workspace.
  • Paper towel.
  • Small ziplock bags – very handy for holding small die cut pieces or embellishments for projects that may not be completed.
  • Small paintbrush and/or water brush – great for watercoloring techniques, but also handy for wiping away stray embossing powder if heat embossing.

Additional items that you would need to bring if attending an art journalling class at the store would be:

  • Paint brushes
  • Messy mat/craft mat
  • Gesso
  • Matte Medium
  • Paint Pens (black & white)
  • Stamping blocks
  • Black Archival Ink

We hope you found this information helpful. Happy crafting!
